Kindergarten

Kindergarten is a year of foundational discovery and joyful growth at Our Lady of Mercy Academy. Our program provides intentional, age-appropriate activities that nurture each young student's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development while fostering self-esteem and independence.

In Kindergarten, students learn through a dynamic curriculum designed to build a high standard of literacy and number knowledge. To accurately track and nurture student growth from the very beginning, Kindergarten introduces our standards-based report card, allowing teachers to carefully assess individual skills and competencies.

Core academic areas focus on:

• Literacy & Writing (building foundational communication skills)

• Phonics (introducing the From Sounds to Spelling program to daily practice blending, segmenting, and manipulating words, syllables, and phonemes)

• Mathematics (developing fundamental number knowledge and problem-solving)

• Religion (introducing students to our shared Catholic values and faith community)

Specialized instruction begins right away with weekly Specials, including Art, Physical Education, Spanish, Technology, and Music. This interdisciplinary learning experience nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, setting our youngest students on the path to becoming well-rounded scholars.

Our kindergarteners also begin their STEM journey in our state-of-the-art science lab as part of the LabLearner curriculum. Here, they are exposed to research-grade science equipment and immersive, hands-on learning as they explore Next-Generation Science standards.

Prayer is a vital part of our day at Our Lady of Mercy Academy. Students begin and end their day in prayer, instilling the importance and essence of our Catholic values.
